welcome to the new decade
21:33
2020 started with my dad tapping my foot at 4:22 AM. time for work, no time to make coffee.
Actually, I have gotten up at 4:20 for two days now (snow season and plowing, ya'll). You can imagine how much energy I had to stay up late or go to a party, right? jk. Also, I had a blog post all ready to go with neat musings about my last typed words of the decade, but I fell asleep without posting it.
Oh man.
But you know what? I found something better than anything I had to say. Saw this clip on Insta yesterday and I immediately knew it needed to be an anthem for this new year.
"you are not required to justify your existence through constant improvement."

ReplyDeleteGood reminder, isn't it? SO happy it blessed you, Ash.

OUCH.
ReplyDeletewow. I am so grateful that you shared that, Keira. I think that's honestly one of the biggest things that I struggle with. The thought of being able to exist without having to constantly be better and do more feels a bit foreign. I'm always trying to fill my life with more and keep going and moving - something that's become painfully obvious to me lately as I've realized how it's affecting me in a thousand different ways. So thank you - thank you so much for sharing this.
Happy New Year, dear friend. I love you so much. xx
I'm right there with you. The hustle game is preached to us non stop since we're old enough to know the difference between procrastination and productivity. It's a hard burden to let go of.
DeleteWell, here's to letting it go in 2020. Maybe we'll get even more done than we ever dreamed.
xoxoxo.

MASSIVE OUCH. I'm prone to always be setting goals and ticking things off of a to-do list and always becoming the best version of myself that I can be. As much dopamine as ticking off a box gives me, it's still inevitably not healthy. So that truth rings especially true; thank you for speaking it!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful 2020, Keira!

Felt exactly that same after I'd listened to it (after the second, third, and fourth time too). It's good to have a balance of both, and I think that's the thing we forget most often.
Deleteso happy it meant something to you, Hanne.
Happy New Year!
