a sanity list + life update you didn't ask for....
19:58Hi friends,
How are you doing? Have you reached day 458675872? You still good? Staying alive? Sane? Have you baked sourdough yet?
the sourdough bit is
a joke, obviously ; )
a joke, obviously ; )
Somehow it’s May and before we know it, it’ll be June. And it’s been a while since I’ve done a life update and while my “head-space” series didn’t feel like the right fit, I’m going with a “brain-list-in-a-post” instead. Sound good?
. . .
DOING
I’ve written about it a little, but right now we have no shortage of home projects. Our property is raw and untamed, so everything we need has to start from the ground up. Literally. Quarantine could go on and on and we still wouldn’t run out of things to do.
A small list of things I’ve done. . .
✕ Shoveled a truck bed full of compost soil (twice)
✕ Dug a long trench
✕ Chopped a pile of wood
✕ Planted roses
✕ Chopped down. . .5 trees? I didn’t chop all of them, but I helped. It was fun.
✕ Set up a small solar farm (fingers crossed that it’ll work)
MOMENTS
// Little Brother and I are re-watching Madame Secretary together. It’s been great to laugh and obsess with him. We are probably driving my parents crazy with how much we talk about it.
// This has been THE BEST TIME for conversations, and if I’ve chatted with you at all since this started, know it’s been a pleasure and I look forward to more.
// My family bought a herd of baby chicks. It’s been so long since we had some! They’re fun little critters, but noisy ones (I am actually writing this to the tune of their chirping).
// There’s a dozen horses within walking distance of us and I love going down there to pet their noses and feed them treats. (12 year old me would have given anything for this)
// Piano playing. I didn’t realize how much I missed it (AND how much skill I’ve lost). Working on bringing it back up and having so much fun.
CREATIVITY
I haven’t felt a lot of creative inspiration, lately. Due to being so busy at home, there’s not a lot of quiet time to myself. Still. I’ve done two photo shoots since this started – one with my sister, and one with a friend (all done with safety, I promise). Frankly, I hate being in front of the camera, but I know I need to get better at it and the only way to do that is practice. Practice until I stop embarrassing myself and looking like a dork.
I am also doing a small personal photography project. Not going to say much about it in case it doesn’t turn out. : )
A friend shared this writing prompt series, and it really got me intrigued. Who knows how many I’ll get to but I’ll be sharing them on my Insta if you are curious.
LISTENING
✕ Random IGTV videos from random people
✕ BANDSTAND*
✕ WAITRESS
✕ 1917
✕ COME FROM AWAY*
✕ THIS SONG – the only piece of regular music I’ve listened to in months
✕ The RobCast: Day 5 of what? // Whatever This Is // A Bit About Time – my favorites.
*I will refrain myself from gushing
so many words
about these recordings,
you’re welcome.
INTERNET AMAZINGNESS
// This wonderful piece of cinematography
Jenny Anderson is doing the MOST AMAZING FaceTime portraits. I know FaceTime photography has kind of exploded during quarantine, but I have only seen a few that I really love. Hers are definitely the best.
// Jess McGuire has also done some sessions that I ADORE, but she has only shared them on her Insta stories. Follow her and watch for them. I promise you’ll be glad you did
// Liz Gilbert made a wonderful Instagram live to answer the question “Shouldn’t I be creating right now?”
// Speaking of the Broadway world, please take a sec to watch this Into the Woods medley thingy – it is OVERFLOWING WITH TALENT
// Freya Dowson is one of my absolute favorite photographers and she made an IGTV series about her photography journey + what she’d say to anything thinking about documentary photography as a career. I love her honesty and down-to-earth style. I highly recommend, if that interests you.
// Gabriella Llewellyn's instagram. No particular reason, I just love reading her posts.
. . .
I don't have anything eloquent to end this with. Listening to "Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere" and it's won't let me concentrate on anything else. Today was the warmest day in weeks and so I'm writing at the kitchen table, barefoot and in shorts. At the moment there's nothing to fear in the world. My heart is lifted. My feet are tapping.
It has been a good day.
cheers and well wishes.
