Free Soundtrack Suggestions no.3

06:58

Hello friend, I hope your morning is off to a wonderful start.

I'll be honest, these posts are really easy for me to write. I am always finding new scores, and sometimes these become my default - "just write a soundtrack suggestions post when you really have nothing else to say, Keira."

But. I promise I do have content in the works. . .it's just taking longer than I'd like it to. In the meantime, here is music for you to listen to while you work on your own projects.

cheers.

Outlander / all seasons

I’ve heard not-so-wonderful things about the morality of this show, but good music is good music, am I right? I have never listened to anything by McCreary before, and I’m SO glad I found his scores for Outlander. Scottish music is like. . .soul music, it reaches deep in your bones.

To start, listen to: the entire thing

Blood Diamond / James Newton Howard

The story behind this score is that Spotify decided that since I already listen to 90% James Newton Howard, I would probably Blood Diamond too. Most of the time, I skip Spotify’s suggestions and I certainly had no interest in Blood Diamond at first. But finally, after I had skipped “Crossing the Bridge” enough times, I thought “What if there is something to this score?”

To start, listen to: Crossing the Bridge, Village Attack, Ruf Kidnaps Dia, Solomon Finds Family, Goodbyes, Solomon Vandy, Archer & Solomon Hike, Maddy & Archer

The Green Mile / Thomas Newman

You know when you listen to enough of one composer, you can start to pick out their style in a crowd of music? Well, when I saw that Thomas Newman composed this one, I was not surprised. It’s light and quirky and weird and I like it a lot.

To start, listen to: Mouse on the Mile, The Two Dead Girls, Foolishment, Wild Bill, Coffey on the Mile, Monstrous Big

Zero Dark Thirty / Alexandre Desplat

Alexandre Desplat is fast becoming one of my favorite composers. This one is more “thriller” than my favorite “The Imitation Game” but if you need heavy, dark music for whatever you’re writing or feeling – this is it.

To start, listen to: Flight to the Compound, Drive to Embassy, Northern Territories, Seals Take Off

How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World / John Powell

It feels pointless to mention this one because likely you are already listening to it. But in case of the small chance you haven’t, let me tell you: GO LISTEN IMMEDIATELY. YOU WILL NOT REGRET.

To start, listen to: the entire thing, especially Third Date – it’s my favorite.
