What I have been photographing in quarantine...

18:58

Hey friends,

Well, my goodness it's July. That's all I'm going to say about it for now. I hope you are finding ways to enjoy the summer, though I'm sure it looks nothing like you planned.

I will admit, I have no idea "what kind" of post this is. But I haven't done a photography related post in a long, long while so. . .that's where I'm starting. I didn't do much at all with photography during quarantine like I wanted. Maybe you had the same feeling "I'm going to be so creative with all this extra time!"

However. I did explore a new aspect of photography in all my time at home: aspect ratio. Aspect ratio is, basically, the width to height difference of your photo. For example, this photo below is shot in 16:9

Whereas, these photos below are shot in 1:1 (a perfect square). I have been shooting 1:1 since April, with few exceptions. It has opened up a whole new world. It has forced me to be more intentional with what I want in the photograph and what I want out of a photograph. It's been so so fun to experiment with and an extra creative challenge.

And! I've discovered that I really love shooting squares.

. . .

How are you? Any creative projects you want to tell me about?
Is it nice and warm where you are?

happpy july.

  2. I'd never thought of forcing myself just to shoot a specific aspect ratio, but I want to give it a try now. I LOVE the square photos that you captured. 😍 Especially that foggy shot of the trees with the mountains in the distance - wow. Your work is always my favorite. :-)
